SALT FLAT ROUTE
DISCOVER THE ATACAMA DESERT AND ITS GUARDIANS IN THEIR MOST GRANDIOSE FORM
Want to get as close as possible to San Pedro de Atacama's most imposing volcano? Then you have to take the Ruta de los Salares tour!
Licancabur Volcano is a stratovolcano that rises majestically on the border between Chile and Bolivia, and is one of the most emblematic symbols of the San Pedro region.
For ancient cultures, Licancabur is considered a sacred volcano, a place of connection with the gods and spirits of nature, where a small and mysterious lake resides in its crater. Following Route 27, which heads towards Argentina, on this tour, we pass colorful salt flats, the product of the wide variety of minerals present, and incredible lagoons that mirror the mountain range. Everything seems like a painting! And out of nowhere, the stone guardians (Monjes de la Pacana) appear—imposing rock columns shaped by wind and water erosion over millions of years; they stand alone in the middle of the desert.
